Rules & Policies

The following rules are to be followed and understood by each parent/dancer

Registration

Each dancer is required to register by filling out a form for our records that will be used in cases of emergency and scheduling. The completed form must be filled out online. There is a Non-Refundable Registration fee of $10 per person per year.

Once registration form is filled out online you can login into the parent portal and enroll in classes. Age ranges are used as a guide. Please remember that the owner of the studio must approve classes your dancer wants to take. Please email or call the owner to further discuss this.

Tuition

Platinum Dance Studio holds classes from September 2022- the first week of June 2023. Payments are due the first week each month. Payments are the same whether there are two, three, four or five classes that month. If payments are not received on time there will be a $10.00 late charge for every week it is not received.

There is a $45 charge for NSF/returned checks.

We are proud to offer online payments, but please understand there is a 3% Convenience Fee per transaction using a credit card, debit card, or bank draft.

Outstanding balances

Dancers with an outstanding balance will not be able to participate in our yearly recital or compete in competitions until their accounts are brought to a current balance. Please Note: In order to take a solo, duet, or trio you must be in a group class as well. Solo, duets, and trios will be scheduled only after all group classes are scheduled first.

Communication Policy

Throughout the dance year, there will be several important dates, activities, and information that will need to be communicated to parents and their dancers. Handouts with important correspondence will be given to your dancer at the end of his/her class. An email may also be sent out to those of you who have provided us with an email address. Please make sure you add The Platinum Dance Studio as a "safe" address on your email account. We will also keep the website updated. We know that sometimes information has a hard time getting from the dancer to you, so we will have extra copies of all information available at the studio. Please check inside the studio regularly to make sure that you are aware of any information that has been communicated. Our main goal is to keep parents informed on upcoming dates and events.

Attendance

Attendance will be taken at each class and is extremely important in the progress of each dancer. Every week, the students will be learning new skills and choreography and unnecessary absences are a hindrance to the student, teacher and fellow classmates. If you know that you will not be attending class, please notify the studio by leaving a message prior to the start of your class. If you are injured, you are still welcome and encouraged to come and watch class. Absences from dance classes are non-refundable.

Drop-Out Policy

If for any reason your child stops dancing, you are expected to notify the dance program director immediately. A one month written notice must be given. If your child drops dance class after November 15th you will still be required to pay for the full costume fee and the costume is yours to keep when it arrives. Remember that BOTH the registration fee and the costume deposit are Non-Refundable.

Weather Policy

If the Bessemer School District cancel school due to inclement weather, then all classes scheduled for that day will also be cancelled. If classes are cancelled due to weather or emergencies, we will be placing this information on Facebook and our “announcements” page here on our website. Refunds will not be issued in cases of inclement weather. Two snow days are built into the full year program. If a class has more then 2 snow days we will be making that class up. There are no classes on the following dates: Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, Spring break, and Memorial Day. Classes will be held the first week of June.

Parent Watching Policy

Parent/s, guardians, friends etc…are not allowed inside the dance studio to watch class. We will have the viewing window open for you to watch your child. However, the instructor holds the right to close the shades if the waiting room becomes a distraction to the dancers. Please remember that the viewing window is a privilege.

Dress Code

Dancers are expected to arrive at the studio dressed in the appropriate dancewear and ready to dance at their scheduled start time. In order for each student to fully be able to participate in class and the learning experience, she/he should wear clothing that permits movement and allows instructors to easily view muscles and body lines making for significantly easier corrections. Hair must be pulled back and tied away from the face securely. Gum is not allowed inside the studio. Please ensure your dancer uses the bathroom prior to dance beginning.

Participants with outstanding balances will not be allowed to participate in the recital until their balance is paid in full.

Competition

Our studio aims to participate in 2-4 competitions per dance year. Dancers will know which competitions with dates within the first few weeks of classes. The expectation is all Senior level classes are required to attend. We encourage all other levels to participate, if you/your dancer know you will not be able to attend a certain competition it is your responsibility to update the owner ASAP. Many of the competitions we attend require early registration. When we know a dancer will not be able to attend, we must relock the dance number to accommodate those who can attend.

In order to do a solo, trio, duet during competition the dancer must be registered in at least (1) group/class

Please see the "competition FAQ" tab for more information.

*Competition fees are not included in tuition dues*
